Notes from Mike's Desk for the Week of June 7 - 11, 2021

Hello, friends! Welcome back to my weekly newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing and please consider recommending my newsletter to a friend.

IN THE HOUSE

At Thursday's House Judiciary Committee hearing, I had the opportunity to question FBI Director Christopher Wray over the Bureau's uneven treatment of conservatives in recent years. The Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), for example, was used as a tool by certain FBI officials to pressure Republicans under investigation.

There were as many FARA prosecutions during the Bureau's previous 40 years as there were during the 18 months of the Mueller probe - and they all targeted conservatives.

Director Wray committed to the fair and equal enforcement of the law going forward. Watch our full exchange here:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

On Monday, while I was in Baton Rouge, I dropped by to visit my old friends and colleagues in the Louisiana Legislature, and I had the opportunity to deliver a brief word of encouragement in both the House and Senate chambers as they are wrapping up another historic legislative session. Scripture teaches us to "pray for all those in authority" (1 Tim. 2:1-2), and I know my friends need it and appreciate it when we do.

While on the House Floor, I took photos with scores of legislators, including this one with State Representatives Alan Seabaugh and Tammy Phelps, who are both former graduates of my own alma mater, Captain Shreve High School. Go Gators!

LAGNIAPPE

My other alma mater, LSU, is now heading back to the Super Regionals of the NCAA College Baseball Tournament! What a fitting send-off for Coach Mainieri. Geaux Tigers!
