Notes from Mike's Desk for the Week of January 18 - 21, 2022

Hello, friends! Welcome back to my newsletter highlighting what's happening on Capitol Hill and in Louisiana's 4th Congressional District. Thank you for subscribing and please consider recommending this resource to a friend.

IN THE HOUSE

This was a very busy week in Washington. On Wednesday, I joined Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy's Roundtable on "Law and Order." As crime continues to rise in cities throughout America and the border crisis turns every state into a border state, House Republicans are committed to providing constructive solutions to these problems when we regain our governing majority. Watch our roundtable discussion here:

Just like crime and the border are ongoing crises, so is the economy. It's no secret that American families are feeling the impact of rising prices and empty shelves due to the ongoing supply chain debacle. During a Judiciary Committee meeting this week, our expert witnesses confirmed what we already know: that these issues are direct results of Democrats' big government spending and overreaching mandates. We hope all of our colleagues will acknowledge this and begin offering real solutions:

HIGHLIGHT OF THE WEEK

This week marked the one-year anniversary of Democrat control of Washington, and what a mess it's been. On Wednesday, I led more than two dozen of my Republican colleagues on the House floor in a Special Order Hour to address President Biden's economic, education, national security, crime, border, Covid, and energy crises.

On Thursday, Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik and I wrote a joint op-ed reviewing the disastrous past year of the Democrats' unified control of Washington. As we noted, it's difficult to imagine how President Biden, Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats could have performed worse. Read the piece here:

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT

I spoke on the House floor on Thursday to mark the tragic anniversary of Roe v. Wade. In the coming months you will hear a lot of talk from the pro-abortion lobby. The truth is simple: abortion takes a baby's life.

We pray that 2022 is the year the Supreme Court will recognize this truth once again. With the Dobbs case, we have the best chance in my lifetime. I can't say it more plainly than this:

It was an honor this week to once again earn an A+ rating on the Susan B. Anthony List's National Pro-Life Scorecard. In a political environment that was so hostile to the sanctity of human life in 2021, I'm encouraged to see so many of my colleagues still standing strong with us for unborn children. The year ahead of us will be pivotal.

LAGNIAPPE

Today, thousands of pro-life Americans from every state in the country marched together in Washington D.C. calling for an end to abortion and a restoration of the sanctity of life.

The March for Life is an appropriate time to pause and reflect on what has been accomplished in the cause for life and the long way we still have to go.
