As Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Task Force, one of my top priorities is to address the mental health and substance use crisis head-on and ensure our community has access to top-tier mental and behavioral health resources. That's why I fought to secure over $53M through the Community Project Funding initiative, including $1 million for the Grand View Health expansion project. Thank you to Doug Hughes and the entire GVH team for your unwavering commitment to serving our community. I look forward to continuing our work together and ensuring every PA-1 individual has access to the compassionate and life-saving care they deserve. Commemorating Fallen Heroes I had the profound honor of attending the annual Bucks County Memorial Service in Doylestown-a moving tribute to the brave firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our community. We paid special tribute to paramedic Thomas J. Evans of Squad 145, Newtown EMS, whose life was tragically cut short on October 13, 2023-his name has now been added to the memorial, ensuring his courage, dedication, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. As Co-Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus, I will always stand shoulder to shoulder with our fire departments and first responders. These heroes place their lives on the line every day, running toward danger so that others may live. My commitment to supporting them will never waver. To the families of our fallen firefighters, and first responders, we honor your loved ones and will forever be grateful for their service. May Thomas Evans and all our fallen heroes rest in peace, and may their legacy inspire us to continue supporting those who keep our communities safe. Visiting Bucks' Future Leaders What an incredible experience joining the bright 11th-grade Honors American Government and Economic Systems Class at Central Bucks East! The students raised thoughtful, nuanced questions and shared insightful perspectives on the complexities of government and economic policy. Their curiosity, critical thinking, and passion for the pressing issues facing our community and country were both impressive and inspiring. It truly was a joy to engage with such a sharp group, and I left feeling hopeful about the future with young minds like these prepared to take the lead. Thank you to Ms. Prothero for your dedication to shaping these students into informed future leaders of our community and nation. Thank you again for having me-it was a morning I won't forget! Celebrating Milestones We had an incredible time celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Bensalem Senior Citizens Association-a true cornerstone of our community since 1973. For over five decades, this center has been much more than a gathering place; it's been a lifeline of fellowship, connection, and enriching opportunities for our seniors. Through its programs, activities, and vital support services, the Bensalem Senior Citizens Association has created a sense of belonging that strengthens our senior community. A special thank you to President Judy Burger and all the dedicated board members for their leadership and to Linda Greer, the center's Food Service Manager, for ensuring everyone is always well taken care of. From the moment I entered Congress, I vowed to be an unwavering advocate for our seniors-the heart and soul of our community-and remain committed to supporting them and the incredible work being done at the Bensalem Senior Citizens Association. Cheers to fifty more successful years ahead! We had a fantastic time celebrating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of Boilermakers Local Lodge No. 13! It was a great honor to join the centennial celebration for Boy Scout Troop 108 and reflect on the remarkable legacy this troop has built over the past 100 years. Scouting is more than earning merit badges-it's about instilling values like leadership, responsibility, service, and respect. As an Eagle Scout myself, I can say unequivocally, that Troop 108 has embodied these principles every step of the way, helping to shape generations of young people into leaders who give back to their communities. Congratulations to Troop 108 on receiving the Centennial Award from the Cradle of Liberty Council-a well-deserved recognition of your dedication and impact. Thank you to the scouts, leaders, volunteers, and families who have made Troop 108's success possible-your work ensures that these values will continue to inspire future generations. Here's to the next 100 years of adventure, growth, and service! Each week, we celebrate the remarkable stories of Hometown Heroes from across our district-stories of individuals who rise above the ordinary and inspire us all. Today, it is with immense pride that we shine a spotlight on a group that has brought honor to our community on the global stage and demonstrates what it means to be a champion in every sense of the word. Meet this week's Hometown Heroes-Christy Murphy and the incredible Bucks County Dragon Boat Women's Senior A Team. This is not just a tale of athletic triumph, although their accomplishments on the water are nothing short of extraordinary. Led by the incredible Chris and Jaquelyn Wetzel, the Bucks County Dragon Boat Association (BCDBA) recently competed on the world stage in Ravenna, Italy, against the top dragon boat teams from around the globe. They brought home two silver medals and a gold-an achievement that speaks volumes about their talent, determination, and dedication. But as impressive as these victories are, their most profound accomplishment wasn't measured in medals but in saving a life. On September 3rd, following a grueling 2000-meter race that earned them the silver medal, Christy Murphy and her Women's Senior A teammates were paddling back to the docks when they saw a man in the water, struggling to stay afloat. It was a moment that could have paralyzed many with fear, but instead, it became a moment of pure heroism. Without a second thought, Christy sprang into action, drawing on the same strength, precision, and teamwork that had carried them through the race. She knew every second was crucial. With her teammates rallying behind her, Christy plunged into the water and swam to the struggling man. With the help of her teammates, they pulled him onto their boat and safely transferred him to the motor rescue they had flagged down. On that day, this remarkable group of Bucks County women did not just prove themselves as world-class athletes-they showed us all what it means to be true heroes. This extraordinary and selfless act transcends any medal or title, reminding us of the power of human connection, teamwork, and what we are capable of when we come together. Please join me in giving a well-deserved round of applause to Christy, Women's Senior A Team, and the entire Bucks County Dragon Boat Association! Remember, please do not hesitate to reach out if you are experiencing issues with any federal related agencies. We want to make sure that you get the help you need and are committed to doing everything we can to do so; we're here to serve you always. |
